The GC British Open Championships took place last weekend at Southwick.
In the singles, club member J-P Moberly was beaten in the semi finals (2-1) by Robert Fulford, who went on to win the final by beating Reg Bamford 2 to 1.
In the doubles J-P Moberly was playing with Tobi Savage but they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Wade & Richard Bilton. The Championship was won by Euan Burridge & Callum Johnson beating Aston and Richard 2-1 in the final.
The annual festival of croquet took place the weekend of 25th & 26th June with Bowdon overall winners and winning 4 of the 5 events. The NW Fed report can be seen by clicking here

There will not be a Saturday tea this week. At last Mondays committee meeting it was decided that a different approach to Saturday teas was required. Saturday teas will know be held on the second Saturday of each month commencing on Saturday 9th. July. An organised croquet session will be held prior to tea. This will commence at 1.30pm and run to 3.45pm. It is hoped that members will support this new initiative.
Alain Giraud and Simon Jenkins were competing in the Men’s Championship. James Death won the Championship beating Mark Suter win the final. You can see all the scores here.
Whilst neither of them won, Alain did win one of the consolation events, the ‘Du Pre Singles’ at the Men’s Championship beating Phil Eardley in the final. You can see the scores here.
Alain partnered Annabel McDiarmid in the Mixed Doubles Championship, but they were knocked out in the first round. Ian Burridge & Rachel Gee were the eventual winners, the scores can be found here.
England were the overall winners (loud cheers from England supporters) of the tournament at Carrickmines Croquet Club, in Dublin. Wales were ranked fourth in this event (boos from Welsh supporters), but defied the predictions by finishing a creditable second (loud, and tuneful, cheers from Welsh supporters)!
England, with Bowdon’s David Maugham as Captain, beat Ireland 4 – 0 and Scotland 3 – 1.
Wales, with Bowdon’s Angharrad in the team, beat Ireland 3 – 1 but lost to Scotland 2 – 3.
Now the result for which you are waiting. England and Wales drew 2 – 2. So England win overall with 9 wins and 3 losses, whilst Wales had 7 wins and 6 losses.
Angharrad won all 3 of her matches, and David Maugham won 2 and lost 1 of his matches. Well done both of you.
