REVIEW OF FINAL
Top seed, Euan Burridge (Bowdon) won the Northern Stars GC Finals held at Bowdon on 16th August. Euan had to dig deep to progress to the final where he beat Callum Johnson (York) 7-5, 7-6 and win the Championship “Gold” Star.
In the Quarter finals Bowdon’s Sandra Cornes beat Euan in game two but lost the match whilst in the semi finals Euan beat Bishop Monkton’s Chris Higgins at the “golden” hoop in game 3. Callum also had to negotiate hard fought matches against Ian Burridge (Nottingham) and then David Cornes (Bowdon) both ending two games to one.
In the Challengers Final 8 other qualifiers contested “all play all” 13 hoop games. Bowdon’s David Beddy won 6 games out of 7 played to take the title with most points gained on handicap card to take the “Silver” Star whilst Ashby’s John Picken was awarded the consolation “block” winner prize, also with 6 wins recorded.

BACKGROUND
The final of the inaugural Golf Croquet “Northern Stars” series take place this coming Sunday at Bowdon from 9.45am.
After 5 heats held at Northern & Midland based Clubs eight players will contest for the main “Championship” in knockout format, best of 3 matches. Bowdon’s Euan Burridge is top ranked player followed by fellow England international Callum Johnson (York) and Ian Burridge (Nottingham and Wales). Our members, David and Sandra Cornes have also qualified for the Championship Quarter Finals.
A second tournament named “Northern Stars Challengers” sees a further 8 qualifiers contest “all play all single 13 point games” with the winner being the player gaining the most handicap points on their card. Full of rapid improving players it should be a close contest. Bowdon members involved are Alex Aiton (Handicap 3), Alan Dix (Handicap 2) and David Beddy (Handicap 3).
We wish them all well. Spectators welcome throughout the day – the players would appreciate your support – the final of the Championship is expected to commence during the afternoon.
