Bowdon would have won the south region section of the NWF B Advanced League on 31st August had they won at Chester. Lawn conditions were expectedly difficult after the recent drought and all players struggled to perform as they would wish. Despite a determined effort, Bowdon obviously struggled more than their opponents, and lost by 0 – 5.
Our team was:
In the morning, Charles Harding (2) and Adrian Apps (4) lost to Elmyr Hughes (1) and Brian Walton (7) in the doubles game with a score of -1, whilst Michael Sandler (1.5) lost to David Guyton (5) – 2.
In the afternoon singles, Michael Sandler lost to Elmyr Hughes -10, Charles Harding lost to David Guyton -7, and Adrian Apps lost to Brian Walton -2.
However, even though Bowdon lost by 0 – 5, Chester still had to win their final match against Bury on 3rd September to win the south region section. Unfortunately for Chester, they had to abandon their match against Bury after an hour’s play, with the result being recorded as Chester losing 0 – 5. This meant that Bowdon win the south region section and go through to the NWF final where they play against Crake Valley.
