For some years members have measured their mallet shafts against the Bowdon Yard, in order to correctly place balls on the imaginary ‘yard line’.
The accuracy of the Bowdon Yard was questioned by Chester member Elmyr Hughes, a former Bowdon member. In a determined effort to rescue our Yard’s reputation, Brian Storey and John Lucas equipped with yardstick and tape measure conclusively proved that the Bowdon Yard is – too long by about half an inch!!
When remedial ‘measures’ have been taken an announcement will be made so that we can all rush to check our personal yards against the new and definitive ‘Bowdon Yard’.
