"A ladies CA squad coaching day was held at Bowdon last Sunday run by Ian Burridge and Miranda Chapman and we were blessed with glorious weather. We were also blessed in that the ratio of coaching was two to one which is in line with CA Guidelines for a course of this kind (but one lady just didn't turn up). The event was invitation only and the other three had travelled from long distances.
What I enjoyed about the course was it was mainly hands on and actually putting into practice shots or a series of shots in order to make breaks or how to get a break when you are playing an A class player. We all had turns at trying to beat Miranda a minus 1/1/2 to getting the first break. The others were playing a game of doubles against Ian also a minus 1 ½ (and one of us), so this was no easy matter. It was extremely intensive and Ian and Miranda had us working from 9.30 until 5pm with a lunch break thankfully.
It was a truly valuable experience as we were all generally between handicaps 3 to 1 so the whole day was of a very high level. After lunch Miranda who is the current ladies champion gave us her view of what she did to prepare to become champion. Keith her person coach had given her lots of motivational tips and not just time on the lawns. Practice is certainly the key and believing in yourself. Overall the day was productive, motivating, and playing with people who also want to improve and are of a similar standard a really beneficial factor.
and Miranda gave up their valuable time and effort to
make it a great day for us and we all came away
wanting to put it all into practice."
