STATE OF LAWNS
The top lawns (3 & 4) have re-opened and the Winter 14/18pt. games, as well as social play, can now be accommodated. The Solomon Grundy competition has also restarted, as long as there is a maximum of only 8 players.
The bottom lawns will open on 1st February when the Wednesday Winter 1-Ball competition will re-commence.
WINTER CROQUET

The Winter Wednesday One-Ball competition commenced on 26th October, 2016, and, each week that the weather permits us to use the lawns throughout the winter, players should gather at 10.30am for an 11am start. The recent closure of the lawns has meant that the 1-Ball competition Finals Day for the top 8 players will now be on 29th March; other players may enjoy a normal 1-Ball competition that day, but scoring will not count towards anything.

Besides the weekly One-Ball, there are 2 winter competitions run for 14pt. and 18pt. games and details of the draw, played in groups, can be found by clicking here (also shown on club notice board). Lawns will not be ready for general use until 11.00am. The 14/18pt. competition Finals Day has been put back to 3rd April when the semi-finals and finals will be played either side of a lunch put on for the participants.

The Tuesday Solomon Grundy competition will continue throughout the winter months. Don't forget the new start time of 11am and that it is only open to those with a handicap of 20 or better with games being recorded on one's handicap card.

  1. The course is aimed at players who wish to be trained as Referees for Association Croquet, although players who just have a keen interest in the Laws will also benefit.
  2. The course will run from 10am to 5pm on each day.
  3. There will be a fee of £10 payable on the day.
  4. The fee includes tea & coffee throughout the course.  Bring your own lunch.

Please send an application to attend to Barry Keen before 11 February.

BRIDGE & CANASTA AT THE CLUB
To take the place of croquet over the winter months, why not come down and play Bridge and/or Canasta?
Even if you've never played before, there will be people there who can teach you.

On Monday evenings, Bridge will be played every week, unless there is a committee meeting in the clubhouse, which is held on the second Monday of each month (except in November).
Come down to the club in readiness for play to begin at 7pm.

Canasta sessions will be held twice a week:
     - on Tuesdays, please bring your own lunch to the club at around 12.30pm; play will begin soon after and will go on until approx. 4pm.
 - on Wednesdays, play will start straight after the weekly 1-Ball comp.
YOUTH CLUB

The YOUTH CLUB (all ages welcome) has recommenced for the winter, in the Clubhouse.
Please pop down EVERY FRIDAY from 8pm onwards for a drink and a chat or to play pool, cards or whatever.
ALL PLAYING AND SOCIAL MEMBERS ARE WELCOME, hope to see you there.

Welcome to Bowdon Croquet Club 2017...

...where croquet is played on most days of the year.

We are a thriving active club and welcome new members (see New Members section for an application form or just come and visit).

The club has room for four superb full size lawns maintained to a high standard providing first class playing facilities to all members.

A six-week beginners' coaching course is held every summer from May into June, at a cost of around £35.
Bowdon members who joined during the last year can also attend, if they so desire, free of charge.
To book, or for more details, please contact Charles on 0161 980 6419. Coaching is also available free on a one-to-one basis at all times.

The 2017 croquet season runs from late March until October when three full size lawns and two short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.

Bowdon hosts several Croquet Association tournaments and internationals each year.
In 2017 these are:

The May Handicap Weekend (April/May)
The June Advanced Weekend
The Northern Week (July)
The North of England Championship (August)
The September 'B' Level Weekend

Spectators are welcome at all these events.

The club was founded in 1873 and has been located on the present site since 1911.
