BOWDON CROQUET CLUB
98th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 10th November 2018

61 club members attended the club AGM on Saturday 10th November. The Presidential Remarks and Honorary Officers' reports had previously been circulated and were taken as read. All Club Officers standing again were re-elected.
The Honorary Treasurer, Leo Fletcher, presented his report, which showed a 4,846 increase in the bank balance over the season.
The proposed changes to the Club Constitution, which had been circulated earlier in the year, were agreed.
Proposals to increase the Club Competitions entry fees were narrowly rejected.
The points made on the format of Saturday Teas will be included in the organisation of the Teas by the Committee.

Notice of the AGM and Agenda, plus the President's Address and Officers' Reports can be found within the Members' Area.

The meeting closed at 12.30pm, after which the trophies for the club competitions were presented to the winners.

CRAFT AND PRODUCE FAIR

POPPY ROQUET COMPETITION
Wednesday 7th November,  Saturday 10th November, & Wednesday 14th November

Everyone is invited to attend our annual charity event in aid of the Royal British Legion; it involves shooting at a target ball from varying distances, so everyone has a chance of winning! There will be a trophy for the winner to hold for one year - one of the wonderful Tower of London ceramic poppies in its own wooden box (see left). We have held this event for the last 4 years so please come along and help us beat last year's record sum raised.

The first session started on 7th Nov with Andrew Thomson leading the field with a score of 8 roquets, closely followed by Barry McKenzie and Adrian Apps both with 7.

The final session will be on Wednesday 14th Nov after the 1-Ball.
You can choose any of the events in which to compete (or all, come to that!). There is even a box of poppies for sale in the clubhouse.

Photos of the first 2 sessions can be seen here

NORTH WEST FEDERATION AGM
10am on Saturday, 17th November, 2018

Everyone is welcome to attend the NWF AGM, to be held at Culcheth Sports & Social Club, Charnock Road, Culcheth, WA3 5SH. The agenda can be found by clicking here.

PLEASE NOTE
The lawns need to be converted from full to short size, as required, on a regular basis. Hoops and strings for this purpose are stored on the benches in the huts.

Recently these items have been moved by a club member(s) onto the floor under the benches.

This is unsatisfactory as the hoops are less secure and could be knocked over by players' feet. Further, this interference means that items are muddled and not immediately available for use when required.

BRIDGE & CANASTA AT THE CLUB
To take the place of croquet over the winter months, why not come down and play Bridge and/or Canasta?
Even if you've never played before, there will be people there who can teach you.

On Monday evenings, Bridge will be played every week, unless there is a committee meeting in the clubhouse, which is held on the second Monday of each month (except in November).
Come down to the club in readiness for play to begin at 7pm.

Canasta sessions will be held twice a week:
     - on Tuesdays, please bring your own lunch to the club at around 12.30pm; play will begin soon after and will go on until approx. 4pm.
 - on Wednesdays, play will start straight after the weekly 1-Ball comp.
YOUTH CLUB

The YOUTH CLUB (all ages welcome) has recommenced for the winter, in the Clubhouse.
Please pop down EVERY FRIDAY from 8pm onwards for a drink and a chat or to play pool, cards or whatever.
ALL PLAYING AND SOCIAL MEMBERS ARE WELCOME, hope to see you there.

Welcome to Bowdon Croquet Club 2018...

...where croquet is played on most days of the year.

We are a thriving active club and welcome new members (see New Members section for an application form or just come and visit).

The club has room for four superb full size lawns maintained to a high standard providing first class playing facilities to all members.

A six-week beginners' coaching course is held every summer from May into June, at a cost of around 35.
Bowdon members who joined during the last year can also attend, if they so desire, free of charge.
To book, or for more details, please contact Charles on 0161 980 6419. Coaching is also available free on a one-to-one basis at all times.

The 2018 croquet season runs from late March until October when three full size lawns and three short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.

Bowdon hosts several Croquet Association tournaments and internationals each year.
In 2018 these are:

The May Handicap Weekend
The June Advanced Weekend
The Home Internationals (June)
The Northern Week (July)
The North of England Championship (August)
The September 'B' Level Weekend

Spectators are welcome at all these events.

The club was founded in 1873 and has been located on the present site since 1911.
The club is affiliated to the Croquet Association and the North-West of England Federation.
