Some of the players
The weather held off long enough for us to complete all of the matches in which 12 competitors from around the North West croquet clubs took part. The players were divided into 2 groups of 6: A & B Classes. In an all-play-all format, the A-Class competed their block play early on the second day and the top 4 played off in 2 semi-finals, followed by a final where David beat Liverpool's James Hawkins. In the B-Class, Jerry Guest of Chester won all of his matches.

Full details of the event can be found by clicking here

The club has now selected, from results of last year's internal competitions, the rest of its Millennium entrants for the coming season:
12th May: Short Croquet at Chester - Sylvia Steer & Margaret Moss
13th May: Level-Play GC at Liverpool - Colin Irwin
2nd June: Handicap GC at Bury - Carol Steinberg & Graham Abraham
21st/22nd June: Handicap AC at Pendle - Barry McKenzie & Keith Brewster
MAY HANDICAP WEEKEND, 5th-7th MAY

To date, there are only 14 players and we can take up to 20 so please take this opportunity to enter a home tournament!

NEW SHORT CROQUET COMPETITION
STARTED MONDAY, 16th APRIL

A new competition will be played on every Monday morning, starting at 1000 and finishing by about 1330. The results will be entered onto a ladder with all games entered on your Short Croquet card. Players should have a full lawn handicap in the range of 18 - 24.
Just turn up by 0945 and you will be guaranteed 2 games.

INTERNAL CLUB COMPETITIONS

The 2018 club competitions have now been drawn and can be found on the Croquet notice board in the clubhouse; they can also be seen online by clicking on 'Club Comps' above. Players who do not indicate why matches have not been played by the due date will be scratched.

Please note that errors were found on the A-Class, B-Class & Silver Box draws - these have now been corrected. If you are playing in any of these events then please re-check who you are playing against in case it has changed.

The usual Lawn Rota and Ground Manager's "Booking Sheets" are now on the board and on the bar, respectively.

FUTURE NW FEDERATION ADVANCED LEAGUE STRUCTURE

Ivan Wheatley and Francois Garcia are looking to develop an approach in the North West Federation to Advanced Rules AC league play, and would like some information from Bowdon. If the NWF is to retain Advanced Rules AC league play there is a need, therefore, to look at all options available.

It is evident that, for a variety of reasons, the number of players that clubs can call upon to take part in Advanced Rules play are reducing and the current structure does not encourage new players to take up the game. A new structure is, therefore, needed which can be met by clubs' current players and, at the same time, enable the next generation of players to develop their skills. The task they have taken on is to try to find a league structure which will meet all of these requirements;  to do this they need some information about our current players.

Please tick your name on the sheet on the club notice board if you are interested in playing in the future for Bowdon in Advanced Rules matches, based on your current AC handicap; cross off if not.

   HOTPOT SUPPER SATURDAY 21st APRIL

The Hotpot Supper will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday 21st April.
The forms to sign up are on the notice board in the clubhouse.
This year there will be a raffle and members are asked to donate prizes.

To book, or for more details, please contact Charles on 0161 980 6419. Coaching is also available free on a one-to-one basis at all times.

The 2018 croquet season runs from late March until October when three full size lawns and three short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.

Bowdon hosts several Croquet Association tournaments and internationals each year.
In 2018 these are:

The May Handicap Weekend
